Finding the right product for your eMobility application. The eMobility area is growing very quickly and within the area there are several different applications that need to be ensured. Choosing the right product ensures function and improves performance. There are a variety of products and technologies to choose from and you have to see on a case-by-case basis what is optimal in your particular application.

Gap fillers

In some cases, a gap filler is needed that effectively conducts away heat between, for example, battery cell and battery module. DOWSIL 4535, which provides a heat dissipation of up to 3.5 W/m K, is a good starting point. Some applications do not get that hot (+80 degrees Celsius), so a heat dissipation of 2-2.5 W/mK is sufficient. When the temperature drops, there are also more technologies to choose from, e.g. polyurethane-based materials. Silicone material can withstand high temperatures (up to 180 degrees Celsius) and can provide very good heat dissipation, not only due to the product's type of filler but also due to the silicone's low surface tension. The low surface tension means that the silicone wets the surface well, which in turn provides better heat dissipation. In some cases, you can get better heat dissipation from a product that on paper has a lower thermal conductivity number than an alternative product.

 

Thermal gels

Often used at board level to dissipate heat between a component and heatsink. The gels, which with their softness do not affect sensitive components, are available both as a one-component material that hardens at room temperature. For example, DOWSIL TC 3065, which has a high thermal conductivity of 6.5 W/mK, and as a two-component material. With several of these products, the curing time can be significantly shortened with the help of moderate heat around 40-60 degrees Celsius, which gives a good process gain and faster output. Heat conduction can be measured in different ways and can also be presented in different ways in different manufacturers' data sheets. So sometimes it can be difficult to compare product to product.

Molding compounds

In the assortment you will also find a wide range of molding compounds for moisture protection and of course there are also molding compounds here that are heat conductive.

Fire rating & Thermal runaway

Many of our products have a fire rating such as UL94V-0, which minimizes the risk of thermal runaway in a battery pack. The silicone materials are good for this.

Silicone foam can, for example, provide very good protection and prevent short circuits and fire.

Glue & Sealing

In cases where you want to seal between two surfaces, for example a cover for a module containing circuit boards, there are of course glue/sealing products that harden at room temperature (FIPG) but also products that harden with the help of heat. In cases where you want to be able to dismantle the cover in a simple way, there are products that are dispensed as a string and then cured quickly with heat (CIPG). This type of material gives you the opportunity to then dismantle the cover and the material then works much like a regular gasket, but with the advantage that you can apply the string exactly as you want it on the cover.

Electrical wiring/EMC

In vehicles today, there are more and more sensors and electronics, we also have shielding and electrically conductive materials in our assortment.

Lubricant for o-rings and seals

Used to lubricate and seal o-rings, there are several products with measured dielectric properties, inert products, as well as high temperature products that are extremely oxidation stable as well as low outgassing. With different bases such as silicone and PFPE. Ex Molykote 55M, 111C, HP300, Molykote 4, Krytox LVP.

Dry lubrication films

Used for battery racks to reduce friction during assembly/service. Gives dry dust-free (clean) film that does not age. Ex Molykote D321R, Molykote 7400

  • Is the product available in the appropriate packaging size for future production volumes?
  • Is it possible to get hold of a sample?
  • Is the product available and approved in Europe
  • How is the product to be applied in production?
  • Does the product come frozen?
